What Are Thyroid Nodules?
A thyroid nodule is an abnormal growth of cells that occurs within the normal tissue. This abnormal growth forms a small lump in the thyroid gland. Nodules can be filled with fluid and/or blood or they can be solid. Sometimes, the nodules grow large enough to cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as difficulty swallowing and/or breathing. Backed by Science
Thyroid RFA treatments may be somewhat new to you, however, there has been extensive research done by accredited universities and hospitals such as John Hopkins, Stanford, Moffit Cancer Center, NYU, and the Mayo Clinic. These facilities are already offering this treatment.

What is Thyroid RFA?
Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation, or Thyroid RFA, is a minimally invasive medical procedure that treats thyroid nodules. A non-surgical option that can reduce the size of the tumor, nodules, or other growths within the thyroid. The Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation procedure itself involves inserting a needle-like probe into the body. Then, radiofrequency waves are sent out from the probe to the nodule and surrounding tissue, using thermal heat to burn the nearby cells causing them to die. Once these cells expire, your body removes them creating an internal reaction that 99% of the time shrinks that nodule and restores its proper function.
A few months ago my PCP observed a lump in my throat during his exam, and sent me for tests. Dr. Bridget Brady was the one who had to give me the dreaded diagnosis of cancer. My wife, who attended the visit with me, burst into tears and immediately Dr. Brady stopped everything and hugged my wife and her words were so loving and supportive. To this day I am almost speechless about all of the superlative care that I have received from Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra. What started out as a life-shaking event became a very manageable condition. All I can say is that I have benefited greatly from a very high level of professional excellence and genuine concern and compassion in my care, and that has made all of the difference. My surgery went flawlessly and every step of the way I was made apprised of what was happening and what to expect. I wholeheartedly and gratefully recommend Austin Thyroid Surgeons!

10 stars! I had my RFA yesterday with Dr. Hands and I feel great! I can finally swallow in peace and without an uncomfortable nodule in the way. The RFA procedure was easy, no pain at all, a little discomfort about a 3/10 and for me very little Downtime. Dr. Hands is a blessing! I am so happy to have found her and to have this done. My nodule was benign and about 4.2 cm, and was filled with some fluid which she drained before hand. I can already see a difference in my neck and that’s probably due to draining the fluid. I will see Dr. Hands in 1 month for a follow up and then 3 months and 6 months. I am SO HAPPY I FINALLY HAD THIS PROCEDURE! And I recommend Dr. Hands fully.

I had a great experience with the Thyroid RFA procedure. Before the Thyroid RFA procedure, I was having issues swallowing and experiencing a frequent cough. However, after undergoing the Thyroid RFA procedure, my nodule shrunk and my symptoms have completely resolved. I felt very comfortable during the procedure. To me, pursuing the option of RFA made a lot more sense than conventional surgery, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. I felt like I was in good hands with Dr. Harding- he is phenomenal!
Joseph, a Patient of Dr. Harding of Pheonix, Arizona
